European Private Jet Market 2026:
What the First-Half Data Shows

European business aviation continued to grow in the first half of 2026, although at a different pace across regions and aircraft categories. Explore the latest private jet market data and what changing demand, availability and costs mean for charter clients.

Europe Posts Modest Growth as Global Private Jet Activity Rises

Global business jet departures reached approximately 1.95 million in the first half of 2026, up 4.0% year on year. Europe recorded around 270,800 departures, representing 13.9% of global activity, and grew by approximately 2.0% compared with H1 2025. While European activity increased, growth remained below the global average and significantly behind North America, which rose 5.0% over the same period.

Why Europe Is Growing More Slowly Than the Global Market

Three factors sit behind the divergence, and they pull in different directions. Central and Eastern European demand has weakened alongside those economies. Corporate flight departments are declining across the region, and older aircraft are being parked rather than flown. Tax is now a measurable variable. France's revised solidarity tax took effect in March 2025, and the DGAC's November 2025 impact study recorded a 21.8% fall in French-registered business aviation movements in Q3 2025, while foreign operators grew 4% over the same period. That is not demand disappearing. That is demand moving. Cost pressure has continued through 2026. Operators report peak-period charter pricing up roughly 15% to 20%, driven by fuel, compliance and constrained availability rather than by margin.

The Mediterranean is a separate market

The aggregate European figure conceals the part that matters most from Milan. Southern Europe has grown roughly 4% against 2019 while Western and Eastern Europe have lost ground, and Italy has repeatedly led European growth in weekly activity data. The fleet mix reflects it. The Citation Excel and Phenom 300 remain the two most-flown aircraft types in Europe, together accounting for around 17% of all flights. Fractional operators and private flight departments are growing fastest in the light and midsize categories, and most visibly in the Mediterranean. Read that way, "Europe is flat" is misleading. A leisure-weighted, Mediterranean-facing market is growing inside a continent that is not. For current availability and pricing, contact PVJets with your route and preferred travel dates.

What this means for charter clients

Three practical consequences. Availability tightens earlier than the headline numbers suggest. Flat regional activity does not mean easy access on the routes and dates people actually want, which cluster in the same Mediterranean corridors and the same event weeks. Departure point is now a pricing decision. With national taxes diverging sharply across Europe, the same trip can carry materially different costs depending on which side of a border it starts from. Aircraft category matters more than it did. The light and midsize segment is where demand is concentrated and where availability is thinnest during peak weeks.

The PVJets view

The number that should interest a client planning a European autumn is not the 4% global figure. It is the divergence underneath it. Broad demand is stable, but it is being redistributed across borders by tax and across categories by fleet economics. For a broker sourcing across the whole market rather than a single fleet, that redistribution is workable. It is only a problem if you find out about it at quote stage.
